Robotic cleaners run on their own low-voltage power and filter debris into an onboard basket, independent of your pump and filter. They cost more up front and clean the most thoroughly. Suction cleaners plug into your existing suction line and send debris to the pump basket and filter; simple and affordable, but they load your filter. Pressure cleaners run off a return line, often with a booster pump, and bag their own debris.
For most owners who want hands-off cleaning without stressing the pump, a robotic cleaner is the straightforward pick. If budget is the priority and you do not mind emptying the pump basket more often, a suction cleaner does the job.
